Built in 1892, this historic church in Thethi has stood on its original foundations for over a century. A presbytery was constructed alongside it, serving as the priest’s residence. The village’s deep-rooted Roman Catholic heritage made the church one of its earliest and most important buildings.
Father Shtjefen Gjeçovi, a legendary figure in Albanian culture, founded a school here in 1917, teaching children to read and write in Albanian. The school was officially recognized in 1921 under Father Marjan Prela, with support from Ahmet Zogu, then-Minister of Education.
Father Daniel Gjeçaj also served briefly before fleeing Albania due to the atheist communist regime. From Italy, he maintained ties with the Albanian diaspora, including the famous writer Martin Camaj. During communism, the church was damaged and repurposed, but thanks to Thethi’s diaspora in the USA, it has been restored and now fully serves the village once again.
The Blue Eye is the most popular natural attraction in Theth, located in the picturesque village of Kaprre, about 7 km from the heart of Thethi.
This captivating site, part of Thethi National Park, features a stunning well known as the Black Well. Covering an area of approximately 100 m² and reaching depths of 4-5 meters, the well is fed by the Black River flowing from the upper Kaprre. Surrounded by rugged terrain and lush greenery, the well’s depth causes it to shimmer in hues of blue and emerald, creating a mesmerizing landscape that enchants visitors throughout the seasons.
The stone groves of Nderlysa are captivating rock formations sculpted by the abundant flow of the black river descending from the village of Kaprre in the Thethi Valley.
This river carves out the Blue Eye hole in Kaprre, a natural marvel that enchants every visitor with its striking beauty.
